Courses in Traditional Archery
We offer courses in the traditional style of archery for all archery enthusiasts. No previous archery experience is required. Students will learn history of archery, archery theory, encounter and use several different bows (traditional longbows, simple recurves, horse bows), learn proper archery etiquette and the “instinctive” shooting style, different draw styles (2/3 Finger Draw, Thumb Draw), and will have plenty of opportunity to practice. Emphasis is placed on practicing the “instinctive” shooting style with several different bows, and under different conditions (standing, walking, kneeling, and running), varying distances, and alternating targets (stationary, moving/roaming, clout / fixed target, swinging target, etc.). Equipment will be provided, but students can bring their own if they so choose. Minimum age is 8 years.
The Ten-Step Progress Development Program for Archers has been written as a systematic development guideline for traditional archery. Each level is designed so that the archers will develop progressively at their own rate. Throughout the different levels, special attention is directed on various techniques, different drawing, aiming, and release styles, types of targets, achievements, accuracy, theory, and the overall physical and mental development of the individual archer. This program gives guidance to both the instructor and student on immediate and long-term goals. It also provides these benefits:
A structured learning and teaching Program for archers and instructors
It gives archers and instructors a record of individual progress
The levels are designed so that the archers can progress systematically
The physical, mental, and emotional development of the archer are being challenged, strengthened, and enriched
Of utmost concern is the safety of all participants, therefore anyone not adhering to the instructions and safety rules will have to leave the class and range.
